Description

In July 2000, when I was still doing request images for my homepage, I was asked to draw a girl in a pillory. After a short conversation, we boiled it down to this description:
"Maybe you could draw simply the second figure alone - after hours in that uncomfortable bend over position too high to kneel, to low to stand straight, covered with 'stuff', insects flying around - behind the pillory her clothes are in tatters - maybe flies on that end of her too. That takes care of the crowd. Maybe it's dusk and the jailer is just coming to release her."

I was wondering about uploading this one for some time now, since I always liked it a lot. But it was done in a time before I started shading; so should I shade it now, knowing that most people would prefer that? But the style I used here always reminds me of an old etching, a medieval woodcut, and I still think that fits just perfectly to the scenario. So, instead of opening my box of grayscale, yesterday I spent some hours adding still more little lines, and finally decided to upload the result in full scale, so the tiny lines wouldn't blur into each other.

Had to add a couple more little lines to give 'em some ground to stand on.

Pity she's not barefoot and fettered... standing on spiked plate, maybe...
